Description

The Head of Energy & Environmental Sustainability is a new post and is part of Uppingham’s continued investment in the Estates team. The role offers an exciting opportunity to develop, review and monitor energy, environmental and sustainability policies across a unique and substantially sized estate.

The estate covers 125 non-contiguous acres, almost one mile apart at its extremities and interspersed by town housing and retail properties.  It includes 59 acres of playing fields, 14 acres of gardens, and a built estate of 80 buildings with an insurance replacement value of £200 million, whose combined external footprint is 775,000 sq ft, and of which 23 are listed (Grades I – II).  Buildings include teaching blocks, assembly buildings, boarding houses, staff housing, administrative and technical accommodation, and sports facilities.  The diverse makeup of the estate presents stimulating challenges and an unrivalled opportunity to further expand your professional expertise within the field of energy and environmental sustainability.

As Head of Energy & Environmental Sustainability, you will build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement energy and environmental sustainability policies and embed a positive culture to work towards the School’s 2050 net zero commitment. You will partner with the School’s energy procurement partners to ensure utility costs are optimised and the School’s environmental agenda is central to supply chain arrangements. You will also lead on energy projects to manage and monitor energy usage across the estate, in order to implement energy reduction strategies and sustainability initiatives.

To be considered for this role you will require strong technical expertise with a strong working knowledge of utility markets and procurement strategies. This will be supported by relevant technical qualifications in Energy Management and Sustainability (i.e. Certified Energy Manager). Equally important will be your strong stakeholder management skills, commercial acumen, and financial expertise in terms of budgeting, forecasting and cost control.

In return, along with an attractive and vibrant working environment where you will be supported to realise your full potential, we can offer:

  • 50% contribution to premiums for School’s private health scheme
  • Death in service cover with a lump sum of three times annual salary
  • Free membership of dual-use Sports Centre (£25 annual admin fee)
  • Free staff lunches in term-time
  • School fee day place discount for children of staff
  • Retail and restaurant discounts
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free annual ‘flu jabs
  • Westfield health care package
  • Recognised as a “Disability Confident” employer
  • Recognised as a “Mindful” employer

The closing date for applications is Friday 3rd February, 9am

Interviews will be held Monday 13th February 2023.
