The role
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented music graduate who is looking to develop their teaching skills and experience at a leading UK boarding school.
As part of a dynamic and highly experienced team, you will contribute to the musical development of our students, providing key support across academic and co-curricular activities. Your role will be tailored around your interests, skills and strengths, and will involve a range of responsibilities such as teaching, outreach, and musical support, including coaching and accompanying ensembles, orchestras and bands. You will also undertake some administrative tasks within the department.
Outside of the music department, there will be additional pastoral and co-curricular opportunities, with the chance to tutor in a boarding house or provide coaching support to one of our sports teams.
This role will commence in September 2025 for one academic year. Accommodation will also be provided.
About you
You will ideally be a performing musician, who is capable of turning their hands to a number of different musical tasks throughout the department. You will demonstrate your ability to coach and direct instrumental and/or vocal ensembles, motivating and inspiring students of all levels and abilities. Additionally, practical experience of music technology and production would be highly desirable.
Music at Uppingham School
Uppingham has long been considered to be one of the leading music schools in the UK. The department comprises five distinctive faculties – Singing, Strings, Keyboard, Wind Brass and Percussion and Jazz, Pop and Music Technology and there are around 350 individual music lessons taught across the school each week.
We also run a very busy programme of weekly recitals, ability-led concerts, masterclasses and larger public performances in the UK and abroad, with approximately seventy public performances each year. The Department has access to outstanding recording, recital, teaching and practice facilities, including 60 practice rooms, numerous grand pianos and three organs, facilitating a wide range of activities.
