Description
Join the Estates Team at Uppingham School in a senior hands-on role where your experience, initiative and practical skills make a daily impact.
Uppingham is one of the UK’s leading co-educational boarding schools. Our 125-acre estate includes more than 80 buildings, from historic properties to modern sports facilities. The Estates Team plays a key role in keeping this unique environment running safely and efficiently all year round.
As the Lead Estates Technician, you will oversee the daily operations of the Estates Technicians team, ensuring that both reactive and planned maintenance tasks are effectively prioritised in line with operational needs, school priorities, and service level agreements. You will also assist in planning and allocating work, providing hands-on operational support to both the School and Estates team, and carrying out a range of maintenance tasks. Working across the full estate, indoors and out, you will help maintain buildings, grounds and facilities and offer support and guidance to others as needed.
This is a full-time, year-round role. Hours are 39 per week on a rota, including some weekend shifts.
About you
You will be experienced in practical estates, maintenance or facilities work, and confident working in a fast-paced and varied environment. You will be organised, self-motivated and able to support others to meet shared standards and deadlines.
Experience of supervising tasks or coordinating day-to-day work is important, along with the ability to respond calmly and effectively to unexpected issues on site. A trade background, health and safety awareness and good communication skills will also be advantageous.
We welcome applicants from all sectors. Experience in a school setting is not essential.
Uppingham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
All positions at the School are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, therefore ALL convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings (including those which would normally be considered ‘spent’ under the Act) MUST be declared, subject to the DBS filtering rules. All information given will be treated as confidential and each case will be taken on its merits. Failure to disclose this information may result in the withdrawal of an offer of employment or immediate termination of employment.
Uppingham School is an equal opportunities employer.
