Description
If you are interested in starting a career in the leisure industry as a lifeguard, fitness instructor or swimming teacher, this is a great opportunity to gain qualifications and develop your skills and experience in a world class sports centre at a leading independent school.
In this role, you will be a key member of the team at Uppingham School Sports Centre; a state-of-the-art sporting facility for Uppingham School pupils, local residents, sports clubs and other schools.
You will have a variety of responsibilities to support the smooth running of the centre as well as lifeguarding duties. This will include:
- Making sure the centre is kept safe, clean and tidy
- Providing excellent customer service for our members and pupils
- Supervising pupils and ensuring their safety
- Greeting all visitors to the poolside in an appropriate and friendly manner
- Undertaking general lifeguarding duties
- Ensuring the pool is never left unattended whilst in use
As part of your apprenticeship, you will gain the following nationally recognised qualifications:
National Pool Lifeguard
Level 2 Gym Instructing
Level 1 Assistant Swim Teaching
Level 2 Swim Teaching
This is initially an 18th month contract but there is the potential for it to become permanent.
The working hours consist of early mornings, evenings and weekends.
About You
To be considered for this role, you must be a strong and confident swimmer.
No formal qualifications are required for this role. A passion for exercise and fitness is essential.
You will also need the ability to deal confidently with a wide range of people, including pupils, staff and members of the public.
If you are invited to interview for this role you will be required to complete a swim test as part of the interview process.
You must be able to demonstrate you are able to do the following:
- Jump/dive into deep water
- Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds
- Swim 100 metres continuously on your front and back in deep water and then tread water for 30 seconds
- Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool
- Climb out of a swimming pool unaided by ladders/steps and where pool design permits
