Description

The role:

Uppingham School is seeking to appoint three Placement Sports Coaches with experience in any of our most popular sports – rugby, hockey, cricket, badminton, cross country, swimming, netball, tennis and athletics.

Uppingham’s vision for sport is to create an environment where all pupils can achieve success and enjoyment – at whatever level they wish to participate, and our Placement Sports Coaches will have the opportunity to be part of this vision.

The role encompasses coaching and providing administrative support for sport within the School, a co-educational independent senior school in central England, and may also include coaching at some Prep Schools as part of our outreach programme.

Our Placement Sports Coaches will be involved within practical PE lessons, athletic development sessions, extra-curricular clubs, coaching a variety of sport across a wide range of ages and abilities, and supporting the Sports Department with administration.

The successful candidates will be enthusiastic team players with a love of sport. They are expected to be equally committed to participation and performance in sport, and able to engage and motivate pupils. The successful candidates will also be integral members of our busy seven-day-a-week boarding school community and have some pastoral responsibilities within the boarding houses.

We welcome applications from specialists in one of the above sports as well as all-rounders with several strings to their bow.

During your placement, we offer you:

  • Shared accommodation for the academic year with bills included, beginning at the end of August
  • Meals during term-time
  • Coaching up to 16 hours per week
  • Be mentored by and work alongside Level 4/5 coaches in a range of sports
  • Attachment to a boarding house in a pastoral role, additionally assisting with house trips and events
  • A small CPD budget to enable further development during the placement
  • Additional employment during summer and Easter school holidays may be available through Uppingham Enterprises (subject to successful application)

Our benefits include:

  • 50% contribution to premiums for the School’s private health scheme
  • Free Westfield Healthcare
  • Free membership of dual-use Sports Centre (£25 annual joining fee)
  • Free staff lunches in term-time
  • School fee discount
  • 25% Holiday Club discount for children of (Uppingham/Maidwell Hall) School
  • Retail, gym, supermarket, cinema and restaurant discounts
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Occupational Health Services
  • Free annual flu jabs
  • Recognised as a “Disability Confident” employer
  • Recognised as a “Mindful” employer
  • Recognised as “Investors in Diversity”

Uppingham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

All positions at the School are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, therefore ALL convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings (including those which would normally be considered ‘spent’ under the Act) MUST be declared, subject to the DBS filtering rules. All information given will be treated as confidential and each case will be taken on its merits. Failure to disclose this information may result in the withdrawal of an offer of employment or immediate termination of employment.

Uppingham School is an equal opportunities employer.
