Description

Are you a creative arts student wondering what’s next? Before you decide, gain a year of real teaching experience, develop your practice, and discover whether education could be part of your future.

Based at our Leonardo Centre, you’ll work alongside experienced teachers and technicians, teaching up to 16 hours per week, running your own specialist workshops, and supporting pupils across a range of creative disciplines including Design, Fine Art, Photography, and Fashion/Textiles. This is a hands-on placement that goes beyond the studio: you’ll be an active member of our boarding school community, taking on pastoral responsibilities and contributing to the broader life of the school.

With accommodation and meals included, a CPD budget to invest in your own development, and the mentorship of seasoned creative educators, this is a rare opportunity to test, grow, and find your direction.

About you

We’re looking for enthusiastic creative art students who are passionate about their creative discipline and eager to share that passion with young people on a one-year placement programme. You’ll be a natural collaborator, comfortable working as part of a team while also confident enough to lead your own workshops. Whether you specialise in Product or Industrial Design, Fine Art, Photography, or bring skills across several of these areas, we’d love to hear from you. Above all, you’ll be someone who thrives in a busy, community-focused environment and understands the responsibility that comes with working with young people.

During your placement, we offer you:

  • Shared accommodation for the academic year with bills included
  • Meals during term-time
  • Team teaching (up to 16 hours per week)
  • The opportunity to be mentored by and work alongside experienced creative teachers and technicians
  • The opportunity to run individual workshops focusing on your specialism during the extended opening times
  • The opportunity to take on a pastoral role in one of the Uppingham School boarding houses, assisting with house trips and events
  • A small CPD budget to enable your professional development during the placement

Additional employment during summer and Easter school holidays may be available through Uppingham Enterprises (subject to successful application).

This is a fixed-term, 12‑month position, due to commence in September 2026.
