Description

Uppingham School is looking for an enthusiastic Database and Web Developer to join our dedicated IT Department. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in developing, maintaining and delivering IT systems that will help shape the digital future of one of the UK’s leading independent schools.

In this varied and rewarding role, you will work alongside experienced developers who will support your growth into a full-stack developer through on-the-job experience and access to online training resources. You will be directly involved in database administration, software development and third-line technical support, contributing directly to the digital systems that keep the school running smoothly.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the design of the school’s data warehouse, providing a foundation for Business Intelligence (BI) dashboards, analytics and reporting tools
  • Contributing to the design and configuration of Microsoft SQL-based databases
  • Developing, maintaining and enhancing in-house software applications
  • Providing expert-level software and database support during critical operations, ensuring continuity and performance during peak periods such as exam results and billing cycles

About you

You will be an aspiring full-stack developer with a solid foundation in coding and software and database development. You will bring hands-on experience in programming with .NET 6+ and C# (or a similar language), as well as experience of working with Blazor WebAssembly and Telerik to build intuitive web applications. You are comfortable using RESTful APIs to access and manage data and are proficient in writing SQL queries for multi-table, normalised databases.

An understanding of data warehousing design and data presentation tools such as SSAS, Power BI, or Telerik Reporting is essential, along with a familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar development platforms.

Most importantly, you will be a motivated and curious developer who takes pride in producing clean, efficient and maintainable code, who is eager to continue learning and developing your technical expertise in this role.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we recieve a large volume of applications.

Uppingham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
