Description
Uppingham School has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional teacher to lead our Learning Support department and take responsibility for managing all aspects of SEND provision as Head of Learning Support & SENCO.
Reporting directly to the Deputy Head Academic, you’ll work collaboratively with heads of departments, teachers, Housemasters and Housemistresses, and our pastoral team. The Head of Learning Support contributes to the training and development of teachers so that the needs of SEND pupils are provided for in the classroom. You will also work with the Admissions department concerning prospective pupils with SEND, and take responsibility for the effective deployment of the Learning Support department’s resources.
You will have the opportunity to work with pupils in small groups and on an individual basis across the 13-18 age range. In the role of SENCO, you’ll take responsibility for all examination access arrangements, working closely with the School’s appointed Educational Psychologist and Exams Officer.
The successful candidate will hold a PGCE or equivalent qualification and will be a strong, dynamic individual with excellent subject knowledge, good management skills, and the ability to build a strong rapport with pupils. Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and work as part of a team are also essential.
