Uppingham School has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional teacher to lead our Learning Support department and take responsibility for managing all aspects of SEND provision as Head of Learning Support & SENCO.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Head Academic, you’ll work collaboratively with heads of departments, teachers, Housemasters and Housemistresses, and our pastoral team. The Head of Learning Support contributes to the training and development of teachers so that the needs of SEND pupils are provided for in the classroom. You will also work with the Admissions department concerning prospective pupils with SEND, and take responsibility for the effective deployment of the Learning Support department’s resources.

You will have the opportunity to work with pupils in small groups and on an individual basis across the 13-18 age range. In the role of SENCO, you’ll take responsibility for all examination access arrangements, working closely with the School’s appointed Educational Psychologist and Exams Officer.

The successful candidate will hold a PGCE or equivalent qualification and will be a strong, dynamic individual with excellent subject knowledge, good management skills, and the ability to build a strong rapport with pupils. Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and work as part of a team are also essential.

We’re looking for someone to join us who has the vision, energy, and compassion to develop a department which supports the community to the highest standards possible, who appreciates the wider life of a seven-day-week boarding school. If you’re ready to take on this exciting opportunity and make a positive impact on the lives of our pupils, we want to hear from you.

In return, Uppingham offers a community that values people. We are warm, compassionate and mutually supportive. This is reflected in our working environment and the benefits we are able to offer:

  • School fee day place discount for children of staff
  • Retail and restaurant discounts, via Westfield platform
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Free annual influenza jabs
  • Westfield health care package
  • Recognised as a ‘Disability Confident’ employer
  • Recognised as a ‘Mindful’ employer
