Description

Uppingham School is seeking to appoint a first-rate teacher of Classics from September 2024.

Teaching alongside an experienced team of seven specialist colleagues, you will have access to well-equipped classrooms and resources, including a dedicated Classics library. Our Classics Department also has a long tradition of running popular annual trips. Beyond teaching, teachers at Uppingham play a full part in the life of this seven-day week boarding school, taking on additional responsibilities and serving as tutors within our fifteen boarding houses and one day house.

This position is suitable for ECTs or experienced teachers. We welcome full-time and also part-time applicants who are not necessarily able to teach all Classics disciplines and proficiency in teaching Greek is not a mandatory requirement for any candidates for this role. Experienced candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of exceptional teaching.

For graduate candidates aspiring to become qualified teachers, our Graduate Trainee Teacher role offers a structured training programme. You will work closely with our specialist team, complete a University of Buckingham PGCE leading to QTS, and gain hands-on teaching experience with a reduced timetable. Throughout your training, you will receive mentorship and support to develop your teaching skills and would also undertake teaching placements in a different school setting.

The person appointed will possess excellent subject knowledge, a good degree, exhibit effective classroom management skills and be able to establish an appropriate rapport with pupils.  If you’re committed to upholding high standards, possess exceptional communication skills, and thrive in a collaborative environment, we encourage you to apply.

Accommodation may be available.

In return Uppingham offers a community that values people. We are warm, compassionate, and mutually supportive. This is reflected in our working environment and the benefits we are able to offer:

  • 50% contribution to premiums for the School’s private health scheme
  • Free Westfield Healthcare

  • Free staff lunches in term-time
  • School fee discount
  • 25% Holiday Club discount at Uppingham School Sports Centre for children of Uppingham and Maidwell Hall staff
  • Retail, gym, supermarket, cinema and restaurant discounts
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Occupational Health Services
  • Free annual flu jabs
  • Recognised as a “Disability Confident” employer
