Are you a well-qualified mathematics graduate looking to kickstart your career in teaching? Uppingham School, one of the UK’s leading independent schools, is seeking a talented and enthusiastic individual to train as a Teacher of Maths from September 2025.

This is an exceptional opportunity to gain first-hand classroom experience while completing a fully funded PGCE. During your training year, you will teach a suitably reduced timetable with full responsibility for your own classes, whilst receiving guidance and advice from an experienced mentor. Post-qualification, you will also be able to complete your Early Career Teacher (ECT) induction years at the school.

Uppingham offers an exceptionally varied co-curricular programme with a wide range of sports and activities on offer. As a key member of our teaching team, you will also be expected to play a full part in the life of this seven-day week boarding school, by taking on additional co-curricular responsibilities in addition to teaching.

About you

We are looking for a strong, dynamic character, with excellent subject knowledge, a good degree and the ability to establish an appropriate rapport with pupils. Strong communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a team is essential. You will also have high personal and professional standards, with well-developed pastoral instincts.

Ideally, you will be able to teach mathematics across the age range, up to and including A Level. As part of your professional development, the school will offer support and guidance to help you feel more comfortable in teaching the final years of these exam groups.

Teaching in the Mathematics department is delivered by 12 specialist Mathematics teachers who work in a purpose-built department with the relevant technology to support dynamic teaching and learning.

Some of these include peer mentoring, puzzle solving, Maths Olympiad training and preparation for the STEP/MAT and TMUA exams. The department also contributes to the STEMM Award programme and has hosted a range of guest speakers.
