Description

Uppingham School is looking for an exceptional and ambitious teacher to lead our Modern Foreign Languages faculty on a full-time basis.

As Head of MFL, you will be responsible for the strategic leadership and development of Modern Foreign Language teaching at Uppingham, guiding and supporting the heads of individual languages. You will ensure that teaching is creative and inspirational, fostering a learning environment in which pupils of all ages and abilities are enthused, inspired and supported.

You will also assume overall responsibility for the effective deployment of the faculty’s financial, material and human resources and will lead the quality assurance of our educational provision, by observing lessons, evaluating the faculty’s performance and actively addressing any underperformance of pupils.

We are looking for an outstanding teacher, a visionary leader, and an experienced professional, with a track record of first-rate teaching and the ability to build a strong rapport with pupils. You will demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and exemplary classroom management skills, along with the ability to inspire others, communicate well, and to lead and work well as part of a team.

Modern Foreign Languages at Uppingham

Modern Foreign Languages are a key component of the Uppingham curriculum up to IGCSE and Sixth Form. The languages taught are French, Spanish and Mandarin.

The faculty consists of ten teaching staff led by the head of faculty and the heads of department for each language. We also benefit from a strong team of permanent and British Council language assistants.

The French and Spanish departments both offer overseas study visits to Montpellier and Málaga respectively, along with an annual epistolary exchange with a partner school the Maison d’Education de la Légion d’Honneur in St Denis.
